Hi experts, in the following sentence, what is being modified by the clause which helps..?

'One such adaptation is the closer proximity of the terrestrial snake's heart to its head, which helps to ensure circulation to the brain.'

In the sentence, the word 'which' is closest to the noun 'head'. Does that mean that it is modifying 'head'?
(This is from a passage in OG 12 page 366)[/quote]

No, according to meaning of the sentence "which" do not refer to "Head", it refer to whole noun phrase: "closer proximity of the terrestrial snake's heart to its head".

Infact one more example apart from Emily dicekenson's letter SC in OG 12, that in GMAT "which" can refer to a noun phrase or noun before comma - guided by the meaning and context of the sentence.

Please refer Ron's explanation to the Emily dicekenson's letter SC in OG 12.

Hope this helps.

Also if you understand the meaning of the sentence then I think you will not have any problem identify the modifiers etc here.
