Greek diet

The diet of the ordinary Greek in classical times was largely vegetarian-vegetables , fresh
cheese,oatmeal,and meal cakes, and meat rarely.
(A) and meat rarely
(B) and meat was rare
(C) with meat as rare
(D) meat a rarity
(E) with meat as a rarity

In this Question One needs to notice that Meat can't be pasrt of the Vegie Diet. Hence you can't use "and" A,B out.

Left with c,d,e,: D is out because it does not have any linking word.
C.E :
C is out because the meaning of the sen comes out to be "Meat was rare" which is not the case.
