One critic's response to the philosopher's new work is (not that the position it takes is heretical, as some have asserted, but instead) nothing new to anyone who knows anything about the topic.

A not that the position it takes is heretical, as some have asserted, but instead

B not that the position it takes is heretical, like some have asserted, but it is

C not that the position it takes is heretical, as some have asserted, but rather that it is

D that the position it takes is not heretical, like some have asserted, instead

E that the position it takes is not heretical, as some have asserted it to be, but rather it is

The needed to correct sentence is in the ( ). pls help to explain me, I chose B, why C is correct???

Usage of 'as' is used for citing examples such as this one. Like is inappropriate here. Also not that... but rather that... is the correct usage of the idiom.
C IMO

"Like" should be followed by a noun. "like some have asserted" is incorrect. So options B and D are incorrect.

option A is wrong as it is not parallel. "In Not X but Y, X and Y should be parallel". In option A, X is "that the position it takes is heretical" and Y is "it is..." ."that" is missing from Y. so incorrect.

option E is wrong because it is not following parallelism too. In "Not heretical", Not is followed by an adjective, but in "But rather it is..." "But" is followed by a clause. Adjective is not parallel to a clause. So option E is wrong

Hence answer is option C.

C has the correct idiomatic usage and parallelism.

not that X, but rather that Y.
