How to progress from 510 to 700

I have been preparing for the GMAT for 3 months. My score based on GMATPrep was 510, and it hasn't changed since. I need your suggestions on how to progress from the 510 mark?

I use MGMAT strategy guides.

My approach is that I pick a topic, read it & attempt the appropriate questions from OG 12. Eventually, when I do so, I get all the questions right. But, why am I not able to progress when I attempt a test? Am I doing anything wrong here?

Your situation is not uncommon, and it illustrates the major difference between answering questions from a book and answering questions on a computer adaptive test.
In the book, there's a mix of easy, medium and difficult questions. On the test, the computer-adaptive nature pretty much ensures that you are receiving questions that are just on the fringe of your abilities. PLUS there are time constraints. PLUS, the practice tests take about 3.5 hours.

Basically, the GMAT is a test of your math and verbal skills AND it's a test of your test-taking skills (time-management, endurance, anxiety control, etc.). It sounds like you know the material, but your test-taking skills need some work.

And that's true, it is one of the major problems I have been facing all these days. By considering all the test taking strategies, I will have to attempt few tests to track my progress under stressed & timed constraints

Additionally, one problem I noticed was the errors that I face are random. After revising the content, I do well in few areas such as co-ordinate geometry, Work Problems, Algebra etc. However, when I am off the topic for a while - I switch to verbal for few days, I get the before topics wrong when I take any test randomly. Do you have any suggestions on how to hold the big picture of all the content while taking the test?

It just takes practice and more practice until all of the content and GMAT-specific strategies are second nature.

Hi,

There are some pretty good advices about time management, how to analyze your test, how to study etc.
This was the best thing happended to me.
I was hovering around 550, but after I implemented Time Management strategy advised by Stacey, my score in Mock Test shot up to 630.
I know there is still a long way to go for 700+, which is my target score, but believe me, this will surely help.
