lower vs to lower

Investors have demanded the investment bank to lower bonus
vs
Investors have demanded that the investment bank lower bonus.

SC Gurus,
I am confused if this is grammer or meaning related question. I can see two differences

1) 2nd one has dependent clause.
2) to lower vs lower.

In the second sentence case "lower" is used as verb (?). Since investment bank is singlar it should be "investment bank lowers" instead of "investment bank lower" (?)

I am not sure which style is preferred in GMAT.

lower is correct here. The only reason that to lower is used in the first example is because 'that' is removed from the sentence when it is necessary. This is common on the GMAT; the error is actually the lack of the use of 'that' in the first example.

Yes Pankaj, as you have rightly mentioned, this is more a stylistic preference. In English, this concept is called subjunctive.

demand is one of those verbs that uses Subjunctive. If you google, you will get to know all you need to.
