Fix the verb errors in the sentence. There can be 0 to any number of errors.
  • 1. We thought that Joe did not go to the museum with the rest of his class.
    2. Because Helen had homework to do , the television was turned off by her mother.
    3. If she had had more money she will have bought herself a new dress.

Possesive Pronoun case.

That is correct.

Can you explain why only 1 HAD is not sufficient in your sentence.

Here we are trying to put "to have" in the perfect tense.

Hav a look at this example:

"His wife divorced him because he HAD HAD an affair"

The first "had" signals the past perfect tense while the second "had" signals the past participle of the verb "to have"..

jus one more example..

Verb SimplePast Past participle.

Begin She began to run She has begun to run.

The Q1 is erroneous because of possesive pronoun "his"...

Possesive pronoun should always refer back to a possesive noun...

See from what i know we use HAD + past participle if there is an event that has ended before the second event in the sentence. e.x.

"The movie had started by the time we arrived at the theatre"

In the above sentence first action (movie started) had ended BEFORE the second action (arriving at theatre) happened.

However in the original question (not having money) and in your example (having an affair) both actions are still ongoing ! That is what is confusing me.

I don't know why they changed the "did not" to "had not".
