This option uses the noun modifier 'uprooted' to suitably give additional information about the witness's life.

Option B - Incorrect
This is incorrect because of the use of the conjunction 'and' before a dependent clause which has changed the message the author is trying to pass across.

Option C - Incorrect
This is incorrect because of the addition of the verb 'being' (which is used to describe an action that is going on not a state).

Option D - Incorrect
There's no active verb in the sentence after the colon. Hence, this option is incorrect.

Option E - Incorrect
Colons are used for making a list or to list things. in this case, the author tried to make a list but gave more information about the accused person.
