Your GMAT score, for a BITS graduate is on the lower side, but still good. Your other academic qualifications are good too. Your extracurriculars are good, specially the dance activity. I also found NSE certification of interest. Your qualifications are within the range of successful applicants, but that by itself is never a guarantee of an offer.

You may want to think hard about three things: your career goals post-MBA, your preferences (geographical, ranking of the school, etc.) and your constraints (financial, etc.). That will help you narrow down your choices. You may also want to talk to alumni or current students at various top MBA programs to get a better understanding of your options. Then you should identify the schools you want to apply to.

Overall, you want to take the time to develop your story - what is it that you want to do and why, and what have you done so far that enables your future plans. Also, find something in your profile that differentiates you from others. Competition from other Indian applicants is getting tougher.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the prompt review.
I understand that Indian IT males are overrepresented and hence i have a competition from a bigger pool with the similar profiles and to substantiate my candidature for the B School i need to have a unique story.Any guidance in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

I have tried to excel in whichever endeavor i have ventured in and ,i think,i have done good, though i may not have achieved what can be classified as super-human or exceptional.

Since the educational and cultural systems of US and India are way too different as we are taught to adapt to any kind of circumstances, responsibility and job,it is becoming a little difficult for me to envision concrete short term and long term goals.Something i am very confident about is that i can do much better in whichever field i am asked to enter if i have the management skills as an add on to my technical background and my on-job experiences.
From the interactions with the consultants and browsing online ,i have mistakenly begin to perceive that B Schools are looking for someone ready with the million dollor plans and all that the plan needs to break-even is the MBA.

I am now targeting EA round but something that flummoxes me is how ethical is it to apply in EA for more than one school?I may regard (infact i do) few schools equally and i dont want to bet everything at one place!

A little elaboration on these points will help me for sure.

Thanks,
Pramod

Pramod:

I can see that you have done well. However, top schools do look for that maturity and clarity of thought. You are perfectly welcome to change your plans after you have gone through your MBA. As a matter of fact, it is expected that your plans will change with all the new things you will learn during your MBA.

Second, contrary to the popular misperception, schools are not looking for the next Bill Gates (although they will not say no to one). The schools want promising business leaders of tomorrow, and leadership comes in many flavors.

As for the Early Action applications, you can apply to as many as you want as long as the schools don't explicitly forbid you from doing so (I know of no schools that do so). You may have to shell out some serious cash if you want to reserve your spot after an admission offer is made. This is what Tuck's website says:

What is Early Action round?
The Early Action round is a great option for reapplicants or for prospective students who have completed their business school research and know that Tuck is their first choice. Early Action provides applicants with the certainty of learning in December whether they have been offered admission to Tuck. This offer is nonbinding, giving admitted students the chance to explore other options until the January response deadline. Any applicant who is accepted in the Early Action round and who would like to secure a spot in the incoming class will be required to submit a nonrefundable deposit.

Early Decision deadlines, on the other hand, may be a different story. Let me know if you would like to know more about that.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot Anurag.Your words have pushed me a little.
I have missed the Fall 2010 deadline and i am now targeting the nearest intake ,which happens to be January intake. However, the problem i see is that most B schools do not offer internship in January intake.
I am now targeting Simon,Uni of Washington,Purdue,Uni of California-Davis,University of Iowa and Boston College.
But it seems that none of the colleges offer internships in the January intake.INSEAD offers internship in January but not sure if i am competitive for INSEAD.
Pls suggest .

Thanks,
PJ

Those are all good schools Pramod. I suggest that you wait for the Fall intake for 2011. The application deadlines for those are only a few months away. INSEAD is a very competitive school and everyone applying there has to face tough odds. However, if you really like the school and want to give it a shot, it is always worth doing so. You don't want to wonder later on whether you had a shot or not.
