How to improve from 680 to 720

by mjjking » Wed Mar 05, 2008 1:11 am
Hi there,
I'm not a newbie but I feel like I am now...
I've taken the GMAT test last summer (August 2007) and I scored 680 with a V40 Q43 breakdown... I want to score 720 at least, because I only need to improve my Q score to do that... Any suggestion on how to achieve that? Hiring a tutor would help?
Thanks a lot!

A tutor may help, but it may be overkill--it seems like you are within striking distance of your target score, given your last GMAT results.

Take some time to study the resources on the GMAT Resources Page as well as the GMAT Study Blog.

With some discipline, you may find that self prep is sufficient. Good luck!

mjjking, :)
I'd agree with Eric; Since I 've been following your posts since the first day you joined; I would still stick to the reply that I gave on your other thread: https://www.beatthegmat.com/gmat-questio ... t8806.html where you hinted your re-taking plans.

If you wanna take one more shot, read some isnpiring re-taking stories @ I just beat the GMAT area (probably you'll find few on 2nd/ 3rd last pages)

I think knowing no. properties and playing with them is the key to beat Q area of GMAT ;)

The problem is.... I don't think to be able to focus so well on my gmat without a guide.... I haven't studied math for so long that I feel rusty... any advice on which course/tutor could help me out?

I would like to really thank you for your help!

Have you looked into the GMAT math review books? There's the PR and Kaplan workbooks - those are pretty good for relearning the basics. Also the Kaplan 800 book is great for the more advanced materials. I would recommend looking at those if you are not confident with the Q section. Also, once you've learned the basics, start looking at this forum's math section for some tips and ideas from other test takers. In general, the questions posted in this forum tend to be higher difficulty.

How to improve my Q score

by mjjking » Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:32 am
Hi guys, thanks for your replies...
My problem is: I lack focus sometime, and especially now that I'm working full-time 8 hours a day! I scored only 43 on my Q, and I bet I have room for improvement there... But how?

thanks a lot!!

I don't know yet what I'm gonna do, but I will hit 700 at least! I'm hiring a private tutor for math, and I'm focusing hard on verbal too! 20 points is on my reach, reallY!!

Actually you should just start applying. A lot of schools out there look for the balance between Verbal and Quant. You have two very close scores. Fantastic achievement. Normally what I see is like 50 Q and 40 V.

Vish,
I will apply next year, not this one. I know I can break the 700 barrier, and I will!
