The solution is as follows

1st Day : - 0.10$ as per the given condition.

2nd Day: - Now it has either to be doubled or to be added 0.30$ whichever is leeser. In this case the amount to added to double is 0.10$ which is less than 0.30$, so the total fine on 2nd day is 0.20$

3rd Day: - Following the same concept it has either to be doubled or to be added 0.30$ whichever is leeser. In this case the amount to added to double is 0.20$ which is less than 0.30$ , so the total fine on 3rd day is 0.40$

4th Day: -Following the same concept it has either to be doubled or to be added 0.30$ whichever is leeser. In this case the amount to added to double is 0.40$ which is greater than than 0.30$ , so the total fine on 4th day is 0.70$

The right answer is 0.70$

Thank you. Your explanation surely clears my doubt. I took the 2 conditions separately, which is the reason why I got it wrong.
