Did I Undershoot My Abilities?

by rasul » Fri Mar 27, 2009 11:32 am
I recently finished my MBA applications and was accepted to every school. I didn't apply to top schools because my GPA is low (2.7) and my GMAT wasn't stellar (640 39Q 38V).

I only have 2.5 years of experience. 1 as a manager of a gas station and 1.5 as an accountant at a local accounting firm.

I applied to the following schools;
1. Fordham University
2. University of Illinois - Chicago
3. Loyola University - Chicago
4. Wayne State University
5. American University of Beirut

So my question is, did I really maximize my potential and squeeze in to these schools because of a higher GMAT and good essays? Or, did I select schools that accept everyone and I'm going to get a worthless MBA from a 4th tier school?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
rasul

I should add that my undergrad is from Albion College (not a top school, but ranked in the top 100 liberal arts colleges)

My extracurriculars are probably my strongest point. I was president of a student organization for 2 years, hosted a radio show on the college station, and more recently have been volunteering my free time (for the past year) to a famous art/culture project and a contemporary museum in urban Detroit.

I also worked 20 hours a week during my college years as a student manager of our student center.

Can someone please answer this? I know getting advice from the internet is almost pointless, but I don't know anyone with any sort of experience in this matter.

Would it make a difference if I took a few classes at my local college and gained another year of experience at my current job (accounting firm)? Would that be enough to give me a reasonable chance at a school like Columbia or UC-Berkeley?

Im really beginning to think that Fordham isn't going to give me many career opportunities and the deadline for most schools have already passed. I don't want to regret this a few years down the road...
