Q18:
On a certain transatlantic crossing, 20 percent of a ship’s passengers held round-trip tickets and also took their cars abroad the ship. If 60 percent of the passengers with round-trip tickets did not take their cars abroad the ship, what percent of the ship’s passengers held round-trip tickets?

A. 33 1/3%
B. 40%
C. 50%
D. 60%
E. 66 2/3%
Answer:

Q23:
AMOUNT OF BACTERIA PRESENT
Time Amount
1:00 P.M. 10.0 grams
4:00 P.M. x grams
7:00 P.M. 14.4 grams

Data for a certain biology experiment are given in the table above. If the amount of bacteria present increased by the same fraction during each of the two 3-hour periods shown, how many grams of bacteria were present at 4:00 P.M.?

A. 12.0
B. 12.1
C. 12.2
D. 12.3
E. 12.4

Q26:
There are 8 books on a shelf, of which 2 are paperbacks and 6 are hardbacks. How many possible selections of 4 books from this shelf include at least one paperback?

A. 40
B. 45
C. 50
D. 55
E. 60

Q28:
Of the goose eggs laid at a certain pond, 2/3 hatched, and 3/4 of the geese that hatched from those eggs survived the first month. Of the geese that survived the first month, 3/5 did not survive the first year. If 120 geese survived the first year and if no more than one goose hatched from each egg, how many goose eggs were laid at the pond?

A. 280
B. 400
C. 540
D. 600

Let the constant increase fraction be k

10* k =x (1)

x * k =14.4 (2)

Substitue 10k for x in (2) from (1)

10k*k=14.4
k=1.2

At 4:00 p.m. the quantity x = 10*k = 10*1.2 = 12

Q28:

Let x be the total eggs laid in the pond

Hatched :2x/3

Hatched and survived first month = 3/4 * 2x/3
=x/2

3/5 of Hatched and survived first month did not survive 1st year = 3/5 * x/2

2/5 of Hatched and survived first month survived 1st year = 2/5 * x/2

= x/5

Given x/5 = 120
x=600

Nof of different ways of selecting 4 books from 8 books without any restrictions = 8c4 = 70

No of ways selecting all 4 hardcover books = 6c4 = 15

No of ways of selecting 4 books out of 8 where there will be atleast 1 one paperback = 70-15 = 55

D)
