ISB Vs Velrick Vs NTU

Hi All,

How would the experts rate NTU, ISB and Velrick for an Indian?

I have 10 years of experience in the education (Test Prep) domain and a score of 660 in GMAT (Re-attempting it by month end for a 700+). I was looking for an MBA in India and was considering IIMs and ISB. My aim is to change industry and get into online products and my budget was < INR 25 Lakh

After evaluating my requirement some 'enlightened' friends suggested me to think either ISB or something around India, for instance, NTU - Singapore. Later, my loan person suggested me Velrick.

Could the experts help me decide on what i must consider (Pl suggest if there are even better options within my budget)?

Hi Atul,

I am no expert but I will still go ahead and take the liberty of responding only because I have spent some time researching ISB & Velrick.

I think you were recommended the Vlerick school solely because of the cost, Vlerick is very cost effective compared to some of it peers. However, you must keep in mind that Vlerick is not that big a name outside the EURO. It's one of the oldest schools in the world and highly respected in Europe. Belgium headquarters some of the most prominent financial/economic bodies that make the EU tick, the most prominent one being SWIFT. This makes Vlerick a very good proposition for someone who is looking for a career in EU.

Where do you want to work post MBA? I think this should be an important part of your decision making. If it's India, then ISB and IIM's are your best bet. NTU and the Hong Kong universities (there are two of them that are good) are also good options. I am not very sure if they fit under your limit of INR 25 L though.

I do not have plans at the moment for EU, so Vlerick will most probably be struck off the list.

However, I have spent 10 years in Education domain, all in Test perp sector, both online and offline. My main strength is Product Management over and above teaching. I want to change industry while keep doing the same work (that is, products both online and/or offline). So my colleagues suggested me to do an MBA from a b-school that is outside India.

So keeping in mind all the factors (budget, future plans, working back in India after MBA etc), i decided on NTU and ISB. Can you recommend some more names (i can send you my profile for that if i could have your mail Id)?

Although I cannot think of any more colleges that might fit your criteria, I do have a suggestion for you.

You can look at top colleges worldwide that have an Exchange program with one of the premier India schools. For ex: check this link.

This is the list of schools that have an Exchange program with ISB. If you are able to enroll in these schools, you can complete the first year with them and then there is a chance (provided you show your eagerness and ability) that you can do the internship and a term at ISB. This will give you the best of both worlds - international education, Indian experience as well as chance to network with fellow Indians at ISB. The only catch is that you cannot guarantee being selected for an exchange program right away (admission time). You have to decide if it's a chance worth taking.

A few updates:

Feedback about Vlerick (taken from a few alumni) is as follows:

Pros - Highly diversified peer group, Good ROI if get a job in Europe

Cons - Getting a job is highly competitive, Knowledge of Spanish and French is must for getting a job.

670 - M49 V33 AWA 5
660 - M42 V38 AWA 4.5

I am looking for a 1 year MBA from India, Singapore or a place near India. I have 10 year experience in Education test Prep sector in one company only. Please suggest a few schools asap so that i can apply before 2011 deadlines.

Check out Asian Institute of Management, Manila. People say that it has good ROI...Mode of learning here is mostly or I can say completely in the form of CASE STUDY..See if that suites you.

I am not considering Australia at all due to prevalent racism and won't recommend you either. Europe has lot of good universities for MBA, though I cannot recommend anything for now as I have not done much research and I don't know your complete requirement. Especially, Europe has lot of 1 year MBA options as compared to that of US.

I would recommend you to browse https://www.masterstudies.com/.
This will definitely help. Once you have figured out few universities meeting your expectations(course/expense/gmat score etc.) then you can post here and get feedback.
