Retake? 720 (48Q/41V)

by JohnD1776 » Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:46 pm
Hello,

I'm a unconventional candidate with a sub-3 undergrad gpa (grad gpa of 3.57). I attended a very good liberal arts school, and have good work experience. A note: Retaking the GMAT would mean that I would have to apply in R2 instead of R1.

Q1: Would a 750 GMAT substantially increase my chances for admission to a top 15 school?

I have only taken it once, and I studied for about 6 weeks to get a 720. When taking the test, I had never done so well on the Q (47 was my highest) or so poorly on the V (42 was my lowest).

Q2: Would a month of intense study get my score up 30 points?

Q3: Is there any value at all in only having taken the test once?

My top schools are Sloan and Stern, and I'm a white male living in the midwest (not sure how important demographics are).

Thanks for any input!!

750 might NOT SUBSTANTIALLY increase your chances for admission when you already have 720. But higher the better :)
Can you afford to take risk by retaking and you end up scoring 710? Retake will be of value only if you can score +30 points.

I think 720 is great and fantastic score for Sloan and Stern.
If you are targeting schools such as Harvard, Stanford, then I guess 750 will be a great add-on to your application.

just my 2 cents...

Personally, I think you'd be sending a bad signal to the ad com. You scored a 720, be confident and move on to other aspects of your application.
