Do you know if these are GMATPrep questions? I haven't taken GMATPrep yet. Wanted to avoid these questions before taking GMATPrep(if these are from GMATPrep) so that the score is not inflated.

From Question 1: If x is negative, then |x| = -x

Isn't the absolute value of x always a positive number?

Write it backward if u think that is confusing, if |X|=-X then X has to be negative or zero but the question says X is not zero so it has to be negative.

I think I get it: -X/|X| = -X. I took the explanation literal, so I was confused.
