Hi Stacey / Amy,

I come from a middle class family and am the sole breadwinner. Although I do have finances to take care of family expenses while I am studying full time, I would like to definitely avail of scholarships, waivers and assistantships. What are my chances in this respect?

I am fluent in English and two other native languages. Will it help to learn another foreign language like French, Spanish?

All my education has been in English and have spent considerable time in English speaking countries. Can I ask the universities to waive the TOEFL requirement? I don't mind taking the exam, though.

If you can point out some b-schools who would suit my profile, it would be helpful. In case you need any more information, please feel free to ask.

Thanks a million in advance.

Kind Regards.

It is very difficult to estimate your chances with regards to a scholarship. It depends on the schools you are applying to, the overall applicant pool and more. However, I would not rely on this. Most schools can be helpful with different types of loans and other aid, but scholaships are generally hard to come by.

Unless this is very relevant to your career goals, it is not going to greatly impact your application. I am sure there are other things you can spend your time on, like perhaps current community work, which feels a bit light to me.

I would just take the exam. It's not a big deal and you would no doubt ace it. If you really do not want to take it you will have to take that up with each school individually.

I do not really like to suggest schools without understanding what you are looking to gain from the program.

Thanks a million in advance.
You are welcome! Good luck!

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for your response.

I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an consulting perspective and ultimately from a leadership role within a consulting entity, preferably my own start-up venture in India. In this venture, I would like to leverage my knowledge gained from global experiences to consult organizations to be globally competitive.

I have been a technology specialist right through my career and would like an MBA to develop within me business knowledge, leadership abilities and an aggressive + innovative outlook for which I have received criticism from my employers.

In addition, I would like to be a management leader in healthcare and develop & execute a business plan to improve on the imbalance that exists in vital nourishment for children in India. Needless to say, if I have my own startup venture as mentioned above, healthcare consulting would definitely be one vertical it would cater to.

The 2 b-school programs that first came to mind are MBA/MPH from UCB Haas and MSIA from Krannert.

I would like to have your opinion. Which are the other programs that you think I should consider?

Kind Regards.

I agree that Haas would be a good option for you. Some other schools that are heavily recruited by consulting firms are Michigan, Kellogg and MIT. I really suggest that you do some thinking about what you want in a program - location, size, culture, etc... and find programs that feel like a good fit for you.
