Hi,

I plan to take the GMAT next year.I dont intend to reveal this to my current employer. In which case, my concern is it okay if i get the recommendation letter from my previous employers.I have about 3 years experience now. Also in worst case,is it okay if i het a reccomendation letter from a peer colleague than a manager from the current company. Also a question that i have is how is the work experience validated? what is the format of work experience letter?

Thanks so much. This is a awesome site.. Three cheers to it :)

Hi Kala,

Yes, it's perfectly legitimate to get a recommendation from a previous employer if you are not revealing your MBA plans to your current employer. You'll just have to explain the choice for some schools that require a recommendation from your current supervisor. You will want someone who has observed you as a supervisor at some point, that is much better than a peer, although a peer can be a good additional recommender in some cases.

The work experience is validated through your company's HR department, after you are admitted. They won't call your boss before you are admitted, so don't worry about that.

Good luck!

Thanks So much for the valuable information Amy. My concern with work experience letter was due to the fact that i am working in a startup of 10 employees. So there is no HR department as such.Any such work experience letter will have to be given by my boss. But if its just a call thats going to go them after the admit then it will suit me fine.

Thanks so much for your time.
