According to the Better Business Bureau

According to the Better Business Bureau, if you fail to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as that of the lowest, it violates the New York Consumer Protection Law.

(A) if you fail to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as that of the lowest, it
(B) if one fails to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest price, it
(C) failure to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest
(D) failure to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as the lowest
(E) failing to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or products as that of the lowest

OA C
A & B do not sound correct, but what is the grammar rule?

Hi simplyjat!

This sentence has a subject/verb issue. Although it is deep into the sentence, the main verb is "violates". The subject of that verb should be "failure" (the failure violates). Thus, only C or D work.

C is right because it also uses the correct idiom "as.... as".

Hope this helps!

VP Jim,

Do you recommend a place to go in order to learn more about strategy for SC?

Thanks in advance!

What is the idiom "as...as?" What do you mean by that?

Hi Resilient,

By "place to go", do you mean a course? I am partial to those offered by Veritas. We really spend a lot of time on sentence correction (about six hours of the 42 hour full course). And, you can do a "verbal only" class if you think your math is strong (although I definitely recommend the full course).

If you mean books, for sentence correction I believe that the more problems you see, the better, since the same error types reappear over and over. Therefore, I highly recommend the official guides printed by the GMAC (which have tons of actual old GMAT questions) plus some other strategy book printed by one of the test prep companies to get you started identifying the common error types.

Hope this helps!

Hi Zacharyz,

The idiom "as... as" is used when comparing things that are equal. For example: I like chocolate AS much AS I like strawberry. Or, in this sentence, AS prominently AS.

Does that clear it up?
