1. E

correct usage of "since" ( A , E)

His correctly refers to chemist unlike other options (hence narrow down to E)

For me, E looks correct if I try to substitute it in sentence

2.

E ( Crisp and meaningful)

For Q16,
B, has a pronoun problem, its not clear whoi "HiS" refers to
c the second best chocie, although i think there is an idiom error here "as well"

D, crtiques only chemistry done by Robert Boyle. changes the meaning of sentence.
E is wordy and has pronoun refrence problem

Answer should be A. Critique , is correctly modifed by the phrase before it. the word "Since" is also used correctly here

for Q17,

I would say correct answer should be B. (Possesive Pronoun issue + subjunctive clause)

A. Creates a passive voice here
C. Uses "are" in the sentence.
D,E. That should be used here instead of

These questions are so old that bad smell is coming out. First one tests concept of appositive and parallelism, second one tests subjunctive.
