Q. If x-y>10, is x-y>x+y?

1. x = 8
2. y = -20

OA is C.
I had marked B because when we try to solve the inequality x-y>x+y we get 0 > 2y which means we only need to know that y is negative. Hence, B.
Can someone explain what is wrong with my logic?

The question can be rephrased as is y < 0?

Statement 2 gives the value of y ...
so St 1 is suff

Statement 1 : x = 8
given x-y> 10
=> 8-y>10
=> -y > 2
=> y < -2
=> y is a negative integer
y<0
So St 2 is also suff

So IMO D

If x-y>10

When u put x = 8 in given eq. u get y < 2 which you will come to know from eq 2 only. Hence C.

But I will go with B only.

You are correct about is y<0 but what you forget about is the condition given by the question: x-y>10

1. x = 8

so 8-y>10 ...... y < -2 SUF

2. SUF

Hence D

If you get y<2 , y =1 would work. Lets see

8-1 = 7

Is 7 > 10 NO

You just missed that little ( - ) sign in your calculation, which cost you an answer!
