56 minus a multiple of 5, (5 n in this case) will have 6 or 1 at unit's place if 56 > 5 n; but it would have 9 or 4 at unit's place if 56 < 5 n. Hence, 1, 4, 6, and 9 are the possibilities for the unit's place of the answer of |56 - 5n|, and only [spoiler]9[/spoiler] is there in the choices.

D & E are multiples of 5 and are not possible..
7 is not possible when 5n is less than 56 ; 7 is not possible when 5n is more than 56 either
