500 to 620 Still not done!!

by ashay » Fri Sep 19, 2014 8:03 am
Hi Guys,
I gave the GMAT last year and got a dismal 500. Decided again to give it. Checked beat the GMATforum and opted for the 60 day plan. Went as per the plan. Gave the GMAT in sept. Got 620.

My observations
a. In math,I missed answering the last question affecting my scores-Math 41. Could have improved in math with better concept understanding and better time management.
b. Verbal:34. Decent score though could have improved by 1-5 points.

However, I will not give up and have decided to give GMAT again in a month. I request all forum members to give good valuable suggestions to help me improve my score.

HI ashay,

A 120 point increase is a strong improvement. I'd like to know a bit more about how you studied for each of your attempts at the GMAT:

1) How long did you study for each?
2) What practice resources did you use?
3) What were your practice CAT scores (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

4) What is your goal score?
5) What schools are you planning to apply to? And when?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hey Rich,
Thanks for the reply.

1. I studied for about 40 days for my first attempt. For the second attempt exactly 60 days.
2. I used GMAT prep now for the video training and also the 60 day GMAT plan from Beat the GMAT. Although I could not stick to the day wise schedule 100%, the plan helped me to stay focused.
3. Practice score was 540. Quant 36,Verbal 28. Had given this 30 days before the GMAT. I did not give any additional tests.
4.My goal score is 710-720.
5. I am planning to apply to Singapore colleges and also 2 colleges in Australia. I have not considered US only because of the high fees and UK because of the economic situation.

I will be applying by end of Oct and i plan to give the GMAT again by 26th of Oct.

If any inputs to improve my score, please message me. It will be of great help.
Thanks
Ashay
