First Practice exam and best strategy

by Indigo_chilled » Wed May 04, 2011 8:34 pm
Hi,

I just took my first practice test using the official prep tool and scored a 590. Q39 and V33 I think.

I am just now becoming serious about my revision strategy and was wondering which course most people have succeeded with...?
  • Classroom prep course e.g Kaplan
    Online testing application e.g Knewton
Official guides and one on one Tutor time
My exam is scheduled for 46 days from now, and I've changed the date 4 times through total lack of preparation.

I'll be lurking on the forums and reporting on my progress.

Hi there,

First of all, congrats on the 590. That's a great place to start! I'm hesitant to recommend a classroom course since you only have a month and a half left, but if discipline is an issue with you, it might help keep you on-track. Usually the classroom courses are a pretty broad overview, so there might be some risk of repeating the basics you already know.

Using the best materials, you can absolutely prep by yourself. Check out BTG's 60-day study guide. It lists some great books to buy. https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2009/12/ ... study-plan

You'll also want to review those GMATPrep questions carefully and create an Error Log.

For online studies, Grockit just added a monthly membership for as low as $10/month. This gives you access to our large online quiz bank, which you can use for further practice.

For practice tests, I recommend MGMAT. I believe they offer six practice tests for free if you purchase one of their books (MGMAT Sentence Correction is great).

Check out the "I Just Beat the GMAT!" section. It's filled with stories of how students increased their scores in under 6 weeks. Success leaves footprints. :) Good luck!
