Ron help out...!!!!

by killer1387 » Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:28 am
Ron,
Please clarify the usage of "comma +and" thing. I am highly confused on this usage

(independent clause), and (independent clause) construction.

How to place the subject in such constructions if the subject is same.

Is there any construction such as
(independent clause), and (dependent clause)--- if subject is appropriately positioned in the independent clause
Please elaborate..!!!

Thanx..!!!

a comma before and is optional. i wont call it incorrect.

eg i want tea, and i want coffee. (although comma not required but is not incorrect)

or you may say

i want tea and i want coffee.

Again "and" is a coordinating conjunction that helps connect two independent clauses.

Eg: and .

now since the subjects are same i can also write this sentence as

i want tea and coffee.

independent clause... and ... dependent --->> doesn't seem like a construction to me. if the clause is already dependent then why will i require "and"
