D/E wrong for incorrect antecedent for which

C is definetly having awkward construction.

out of A and B A is wrong, for, letters, outnumber and not outnumbering is correct. So B

B has redundancy error. Pick E.

Emily Dickinson's letters to Susan Huntington Dickinson were written over a period beginning a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother and ending shortly before Emily's death in 1886, outnumbering her letters to anyone else.

A. Dickinson were written over a period beginning a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother and ending shortly before Emily's death in 1886, outnumbering
B. Dickinson were written over a period that begins a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother and ended shortly before Emily's death in 1886, outnumber
C. Dickinson, written over a period beginning a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother and that ends shortly before Emily's death in 1886 and outnumbering
D. Dickinson, which were written over a period beginning a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother, ending shortly before Emily's death in 1886, and outnumbering
E. Dickinson, which were written over a period beginning a few years before Susan's marriage to Emily's brother and ending shortly before Emily's death in 1886, outnumber
One quick approach:

In A and D, over a period...beginning....and ending...outnumbering suggests that the period was outnumbering the letters to anyone else. The intended meaning of the sentence is that the letters to Susan outnumbered the letters to anyone else. Eliminate A and D.

In B, the verb begins should not be in the present tense, since the action is not taking place in the present. Eliminate B.

In C, over a period beginning...and that ends lacks parallelism. Eliminate C.

The correct answer is E.
