The OA is E.

Both statements combined are not sufficient? I would love some help here.

Hi M7MBA,

We're asked How many miles long the route is from Danton to Griggston. This prompt is a great example of a 'concept question' (meaning that we don't have to do any math to correctly answer it if we recognize the concept(s) involved.

1) It is twice as far from Danton to Griggston as it is from Danton to Farmville.

Fact 1 does not give us any information that specifically defines any of the distances between the cities, so there's no way to answer the question.
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) It takes 12 hours to get from Danton to Farmville by bus.

Fact 2 does not give us any information that specifically defines the distance between the two cities, so there's no way to answer the question.
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know:
-It is twice as far from Danton to Griggston as it is from Danton to Farmville.
-It takes 12 hours to get from Danton to Farmville by bus.
We still don't have any way to define the distance between the two cities (and the two Facts don't 'connect' in any meaningful way to give us a distance).
Combined, INSUFFICIENT

Final Answer: E

We need to determine the number of miles from Danton to Griggston.

Statement One Alone:

It is twice as far from Danton to Griggston as it is from Danton to Farmville.

Statement one does not tell us the actual distance from Danton to Griggston, so it's insufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:

It takes 12 hours to get from Danton to Farmville by bus.

Since we know nothing regarding the rate of travel, statement two does not provide us with enough information to answer the question.

Statements One and Two Together:

Even when using the statements together, without a rate of travel we cannot answer the question.
