Age: 24
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Teacher Education
GPA: 3.359
GMAT: Haven't taken it yet, plan to apply in a few years
After graduating from college, I've been working full-time at a defense company for almost 3 years as a Software Engineer. I also worked as an intern in the same field for 3 years in college. I initially chose to major in Computer Science because I felt there would be a lot of good job opportunities right after I graduate and also felt the skills you learn from the major can be applied to a lot of other jobs since everything is on the web nowadays. Yet, after working for a few years, I find myself bored and unmotivated to work and feel it would be better to change to a career I'm more passionate about.
My ideal job would be to be in a managerial position for a non-profit sports organization, in particular the USTA (United States Tennis Assocation), and be able to help find ways to expose unprivileged kids to tennis. I have played tennis most of life and outside of school, I have always tried to find ways to work with kids, especially to help teach kids tennis. (I worked as a camp counselor and volunteered at the my local community tennis courts in high school, I volunteered at an elementary school and worked for a youth tennis league in college, and currently I'm trying to get involved at a tennis club in my area). I really enjoy working with kids and even more showing them how fun it is to play tennis.
I think the MBA program can teach me the skills needed for this type of position and help me achieve my ideal job, but would like to know what the experts think. Thanks!
