GMATPrep Diagnostic 610 (Q44 V30) IR 7 -- How to proceed?

Hey guys! I took the diagnostic a week back a scored a 610 (Q44 V30) IR 7. Before taking the diagnostic I revisited all the math concepts but I took the verbal cold. I struggled with data sufficiency questions in quant. As for verbal I felt that I was mostly frustrated with RCs. Four hours is long so to have to read huge paragraphs towards the end was something I didn't have patience for. Definitely need to work on that!

My goal score is 730 and I'm planning to spend 4-6 months. Jumping to a 730 from 610 does seem big but I feel it's doable. I was wondering if someone anybody could tell me what courses out there will help me achieve this score. Any other advice/suggestions are welcome as well! Especially looking forward to hearing from someone who has gotten a 600-610 in diagnostic and has gone to score above 700+ on the official GMAT.

Going from a diagnostic of 610 to an official score of 730 is a very reasonable goal. In the 'success' forum there are dozens of stories from test-takers who made a similar, or even more dramatic leap:https://www.beatthegmat.com/i-just-beat- ... t-f15.html

Hi vdm,

A 610 is a solid initial CAT score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years). With 4-6 months of potential study time, you've given yourself plenty of time to achieve your goals. You will likely have to learn (and practice) some new tactics to help you deal with the Quant and Verbal sections, and you'll have to work on your overall test-taking skills, but you don't appear to be in a rush, which is good.

1) What resources are you studying with?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hey Rich!

I'm currently working with MGMAT SC and PowerScore CR for the next two weeks along with Quant problems from the Official GMAT. I plan on applying to business school next year - 2016. I would like to join Empower GMAT's course but I'm looking for more information regarding the course. I'm trying to figure out which plan would best suite my needs. Could you help me out with this?

Hi Varsha,

With your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on this CAT, you have the potential to pick up some serious points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Given the study time frame that you've described, you have plenty of time to build up your skills, so you can work at your own pace. Since you're currently working with some materials, I suggest that you finish off this portion of your plan (over the next 2 weeks), then take another FULL-LENGTH CAT. Once you have that result, we'll have a better understanding of what you'll need to focus on going forward and we can figure out which Study Plan will be most appropriate for your needs.
