by RajanS » Thu Aug 19, 2010 9:32 am
Hello Stacy,

I am in the process of applying to Harvard, Sloan, Stern and INSEAD for 2011/2012 intake. Can you please evaluate my chances to any of the above colleges based on my profile

Nationality: Indian 29yrs ( will be 30 at time of entry)

Pros:
Occupation: Research Engineer in a Semiconductor company in US (Non IT)
Experience: 6yrs (at time of entry)
GMAT: 720
GPA: 3.89/4 (Graduate in US), 7/10 (Undergraduate in India)

Cons:
Extra curricular & community service

I will get excellent recommendations from my supervisors and managers. I have co-authored several patents and have good growth in my career.

Eagerly awaiting your feedback.

Thanks
Rajan S

Dear Rajan,

You have targeted four highly competitive MBA programs, so these are reach schools for any profile in my opinion. You are certainly competitive in terms of GMAT, GPA and work experience. The question is how well will you put your application package together, meaning the strength of your essays, recommendations and interviews. If you believe you are a good writer and will present well in your interviews, then you certainly have a shot. I think it is prudent for any applicant to have some reasonable and safety options in their school mix though as there are no guarantees in MBA admissions. Since you do not really have any extracurriculars/community service, and do not know what the rest of your competition looks like, I would encourage you to identify some schools that are not as selective yet meet your personal criteria for an MBA program.

Best of luck,
Lisa
