There are 120 saplings to be planted in an orchard. Ben and Sue working together without a break can complete the job in six hours. How long would it take Ben working alone to complete the job?

1. Sue plants 3 saplings in the time it takes Ben to plant 2.
2. Sue working alone would take 10 hours to do the job.

B+S=6 hrs

120 saplings in 6 hrs

1 sapling in 1/20 hrs

stmt1,

Sue - 3 saplings in T-1 sapling in T/3

Ben - 2 saplings in T-1 sapling in T/2

T/3+T/2=1/20

5T/6=120

T=144

Sufficient

Stmt2,

Sue 120 saplings in 10 hrs

12 saplings in 1 hr

Ben+sue - 20 saplings in 1 hr

Ben = 8 saplings in 1 hr

Sufficient.

Given:

Rate of A + Rate of B = 6
Work = 140

R*T = W

Stmt 1: RAte of A/ Rate of B = 3/2 ===> Hence putting it in eqn above, we can find the rate of B
SUFF.

Stmt2: Rate of A is given, Put A in eqn above we get rate of B Suff.

Ans = D

Always write down or rephrase the information, then circle the value you need to find, In this case we need to find any relation of information which can give us the value of A (Sue).
