President of the United States: I have received over 2,000 letters on this issue, and the vast majority of them support my current position. These letters prove that most of the people in the country agree with me. Which of the following, if true, most weakens the President's conclusion?

(A) The issue is a very divisive one on which many people have strong opinions.
(B) Some members of Congress disagree with the President's position.
(C) People who disagree with the President feel more strongly about the issue than do people
who agree with him.
(D) People who agree with the President are more likely to write to him than are people who
disagree with him.
(E) During the presidential campaign, the President stated a position on this issue that was some-
what different from his current position.

Incorrect : The issue is not about strong/weak opinions. It is about whether ppl in the country agree/disagree with the president.

(B) Some members of Congress disagree with the President's position.
Incorrect : Disagreement with members of congress is irrelevant.

(C) People who disagree with the President feel more strongly about the issue than do people
who agree with him.
Incorrect : -------- Same as (A) -------

(D) People who agree with the President are more likely to write to him than are people who
disagree with him.
Correct : The author fails to consider the possibility that ppl who disagree with the president might not have written to him. This answer choice points out just that.

(E) During the presidential campaign, the President stated a position on this issue that was some-what different from his current position.
Incorrect : Presidential campaign is out of scope. Hence ruled out.
