Can anyone give me a rough idea of how long it should take an average GMATter to complete the OG Math and Verbal books? (in hours) I realise that this can vary quite a lot, but having a few answers from a few people would help. I want to make sure that I finish ALL the questions in both books before my test, but I'd also like to leave these (almost) until the end, and prior to that do questions from other sources. I've completed studying most of the concepts (apart from CR and RC, but still waiting for the books to arrive in the post), have done pretty much all the questions in OG 12th ed and have a month of studying left (just booked my test, eek!).

Thanks!

The verbal part would take a lot of time, considering so many RC's and CR's...verbal should be done in 20 hours or so...
Quant would take lesser time...if you are decent enough in Math you should finish it in 10-15 hours or so...

Is that with reviewing the answers?

nope...its just for solving...
just multiply the nos by 1.5 to get the combined time in minutes...
but I wud to say that you have not asked the ideal question...the time might be different for me and you!!!
even I am guessing as to the amount of time i required as I didnt keep a tab on time while solving OG...

Your goal timing standards for test day would be about 2 minutes each for Critical reasoning and Reading Comp. (For reading comp that includes reading the passage of course) This is only possible if you can do sentence correction in 1:15 seconds each, something that can be done with practice.

So multiply number of CR and RC x 2min and SC x 1:15.

For Quant it is 2 minutes per question, however many people find that they can do Data Suff. faster because you do not have to actually solve - so it may be more like 1:30 for Dat Suff and 2 minutes for Problem Solving.

So multiply the total number of Quant questions by 2 minutes or use the breakdown above.

Remember when you are studying to give yourself time to review. I would say that - in reality - to get the most out of the book you will need to have about 5 minutes per problem. Some you will get the right an answer and need no more than 2 minutes. But for those you miss you may need 10 minutes or more to figure out why you missed and what the correct approach is and how you can avoid making the same mistake.

Each book has about 300 questions so at something like 5 min per question you are looking at 25 hours for each book. Maybe you don't miss too many questions or you are quick to figure out how you missed - then it would be 15 to 20 hours. I would not budget less than 15 hours for each book.

Good Luck!
