Columbia 2-yr MBA

by yavsakfener » Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:35 am
Hello,
I am a senior Business Administration student from Turkey.
Currently, my GPA is 2.5 and it will be close to 2.8 upon graduation, from top university in Turkey, and my gmat score is 760.
I have three years of part-time work experience in family company with no interesting XC activities.
What do you think about my changes getting into Columbia MBA?

You have two obvious things going for you: 1) you are from Turkey, which will help since it is an underrepresented country in most b-schools and 2) your GMAT is through the roof, which will make schools sit up and notice, especially the schools who are trying to improve their average. While your academics are below avg, your GMAT score should innoculate any concerns about whether you have the brains to handle their program. If you can weave your vision in a compelling way and cast your experience in the family business as valuable, you should have a good shot. Surely you have done something outside of work which could serve as XC activities. US schools are a little more lenient about community involvement from applicants outside the US who may not have as many opportunities to serve.
