This is a real tough one... :roll: ..... i think the answer should be A... the quote (in a gist) is about a situation in which surgeons for pecuniary interest will start cutting legs unnecessarily making the nation despair of political humanity....
This illustration is best applicable to criticize the situation mentioned in option A... which talks about a similar situation in which Dentists perform unnecessary dental work in order to earn a profit....... HTH :)

What the question asks is to draw a parallel between one of the choices (A through E) and the example given in the original statement.

The original statement refers to the practice of giving "a pecuniary interest in cutting off your leg" - this means to give surgeons money to cut off legs. This IMPLIES that surgeons will cut off legs that DO NOT REQUIRE REMOVAL.

Now, find an example that is equivocal. C and D are normal activities that exist in a free market. A refers to UNNECESSARY procedures performed by dentists.

I don't think answer A is the right choice, because the question ask "criticizing", which IMO, it's asking for something that's totally opposite?

I would of guess E on this one, because E has the opposite effect of what Shaw said.

No, his statement was critical of the practice of paying surgeons to cut off legs. The question asks for an illustration to assist in his criticism. A is the only answer which could do this.
