It's very hard to predict how much you will gain since it depends so much on the individual.

A good question to start with is: what is your target score?

If it's in the 500s, then I think it's feasible. If it's in the 600s, then I think with some work it's feasible. If it's in the 700s, then I think you've got a lot of work cut out for you.

I'm glad that you signed up for the MGMAT online course because it's very solid. Try to work with your instructor and let him/her know what your goals are. Be sure to use this community as well if you have any questions around concepts or specific questions.

Best of luck!

Actually, a 460 is not that surprising since you've been out of school for a long time and didn't do any prep. Don't let that score get you down or nervous.

Before your class starts, relearn the math formulas. Get a GMAT math workbook and do lots of practice questions. You will get a lot more out of your class if you brush up your skills first (not to mention you won't drag down the class discussions with the basics).

I'm sure with a refresher and the course, you will have no trouble hitting 600+.

Completing the MGMAT course (as well as doing all the homework) certainly counts for "some work." It's a rigorous course!

Also, think back to what your math grades were like in school. Did you do pretty well - mostly A's and B's? In that case, it's likely that you will be okay; you just need to relearn stuff that you've already showed you can learn.

Need Help

by hopefulmba » Thu Oct 11, 2007 10:43 am
I took the GMAT a few times and I have to admit I am a terrible test taker in general. I have been out of school for over 4 years now and on diagnostic tests I get 560 (arco exam) but when it came to the real deal I bombed it down to a 430. It was quite devastating. I actually feel quite uncomfortable talking about this because I feel alone in this struggle. I really want to at least score a 600 in order to get into a decent program but does anyone have any helpful hints? Personally, I would love to get a 650 but I want to be realistic. How do you study? :(

wow when I read this I had to stop for a second and ask myself if I had posted it. I too am on the same boat as you. I've been studying for the past 4 weeks and am still getting 400s on my practice tests =( What's worse is I am scheduled to take the GMAT this Saturday. I really want a 600 but I don't know how I will be able to increase it that much in 2 days. If anyone has any suggestions please help!

p.s. Notice my screen name? Similar to yours "hopefulmba"..freaky!

I understand that it is frustrating I even hired a tutor and I did amazingly well I even scored upwards towards a 580 and he even noticed that I was anxious. Maybe it is test taker's anxiety but any feedback would be great. I think that with collaboration maybe we can help one another out? I did download the flashcards and they seemed to help as well. Things that I forgot or threw out the window I totally remembered again!

Just a reply to the comment upthread about how to improve in 2 days... you probably already know this, but there's no real way to do that. Improvement (especially significant improvement) takes time. If you are that far from your target score in practice tests, then you probably do not want to take the real thing in 2 days.

I strongly believe that it's all about having a consistent and methodical study strategy--and sticking to it. If you would like to see an example of what one study strategy could look like, please visit: https://beatthegmat.blocked
