Medicinal uses of laser.

The major areas of medicine in which lasers are effective is in the cutting and closing of blond vessels, and in the destruction of tumors.
(A) is in the cutting and closing of blood vessels, and in the destruction
(B) are the cutting and closing of blood vessels, and also the case of destroying
(C) are the cutting, closing of blood vessels, and in the destroying
(D) are the cutting and closing of blood vessels, and the destruction
(E)is in the cutting and closing of blood vessels, and the destroying

OA after some discussions.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

IMO D.

(D) are the cutting and closing of blood vessels, and the destruction
I feel the cutting and the closing are complex gerunds, and destruction is an action noun.

Complex gerunds can be parallel to action nouns.

Story of 2 ANDs

in the cutting AND1 closing of blood vessels, AND2 in the destruction of tumors

CUTTING and CLOSING of blood vessels are related activities - AND1 usage correct
in X of BLOOD VESSELS AND2 in Y OF TUMORS (X and Y related activities - AND2 usage correct)

Drop A/E - IS
Drop C - usage of one AND incorrectly signifies cutting (of WHAT...Note "of blood vessels" is not part of cutting now), closing of blood vessels and the destruction of tumors are parallel activity.

Drop B - IMO usage of ALSO is wordier; THE CUTTING and CLOSING of blood vessels IS NOT PARALLEL TO "the case of destroying". Note The cutting/closing signifies an ACTION NOUN while THE CASE signifies just a noun MAKING THEM NON-PARALLEL.
