OG16- Computers vs on paper

by songqianru » Sat Aug 08, 2015 1:51 pm
Hi All,

Companies are relying more and more on networked computers for such critical tasks as inventory management, electronic funds transfer, and electronic data interchange, in which standard business transaction are handled via computer rather than on paper.

A.in which standard business transaction are handled via computer rather than on paper
B. where computers handle standard business transactions rather than on paper
C. in which computers handle standard business transactions instead of on paper
D where standard business transactions are handled, not with paper, but instead via computer
E. in which standard business transaction are being handled via computer, in place of on paper.

I was able to choose the correct answer A, but I have a little doubt about the E choice. I eliminated it because the sentence seems to compare standard business transaction with on paper. I am wondering if the comma were gotten rid of, would the choice E be a correct answer.

Thank you very much in advance

Best.

Hi,

Here is my try,

A) Correct
B) Usage of WHERE is wrong , since there is no physical place.
C) GMAT avoids usage of INSTEAD OF and prefers RATHER THAN
D) Similar to option B
E) Usage of "being" is wrong.

Thanks.

Regards,
Uva.

Just wanted to know that can this be the actual reason to eliminate option C? Please advise

Thanks

I believe I read an expert post somewhere that "which" and "in which" behave in the same manner.

By that logic, "in which" should have modified "electronic data interchange", but is actually modifying "critical tasks".

Can an expert please explain.
