The basics...
Age/Gender: 32 yrs/male
Location: USA (Boston)
Work experience: I'm a writer specializing in pharmaceutical advertising/sales training. I've also done some independent consulting (regarding statistical analyses, interpretation of clinical data) for a startup company that sells drug safety data.
Academics: Bachelor's in Chemistry with a minor in Economics from MIT (GPA: 4.7/5.0; Econ GPA: 4.8/5.0). Master's in Chemistry from Columbia (GPA: 3.4/4.0).
GMAT: Haven't taken it for real, but I scored in the high 600s on a practice test from the Princeton Review, and I'm expecting to move into the low 700s once I get some formal test prep under my belt. (I think this is a realistic goal, as I'm pretty good at taking tests--got a 2300 (out of 2400) on my GRE without any test prep classes.)
Some more detail...
I don't yet have a clear-cut goal in applying to MBA programs. What's led me to consider it is that I feel as though I've hit my professional ceiling and need some additional academic credentialing to break through it. I realize that my profile is nontraditional in that I'm a bit older and don't have experience in management/finance/etc. Still, I feel like I have a lot to contribute, as I'm bright, have a knack for solving problems, and have no problem working my butt off.
So my questions are...
Would it be a reasonable idea for someone in my position to apply to MBA programs, and if so, what would be good programs for me to target? I'd love to stay in or around Boston, but I am somewhat flexible about geography.
Any insight would be awesome. Thanks.
