What is the range of the numbers 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 20, and x?
1) The mean is 9
2) x is the median

If x > 20, then range of the numbers = (x - 2)
If x < 20, then range of the numbers = (20 - 2) = 18

Hence, if we can conclude any of the above relations or the value of x, we can determine the range of the numbers.

Statement 1: This information is enough to determine the value of x. Which in turn is sufficient to determine the range of the numbers.

Sufficient

Statement 2: As x is the median of the numbers, x must be less than largest number, i.. 20. Hence, range of the numbers is 18.

Sufficient

The correct answer is D.
