In a certain test, how many of the 35 students in a certain class got a score less than 85?
1). The average score of all students is 85
2). The median score of all students is 85

1). The average score of all students is 85
INSUFF. Average = 85. The set can have either all values as 85 or some less and some more than 85 to be the average. So #nos < 85 cannot be determined.
2). The median score of all students is 85
INSUFF. Same as above. The set can have all values as 85 or some less and some more than 85 but 85 is the 18th value in the set. So # nos < 85 cannot be determined.

Combining 1 & 2. With average and median as 85, the set can be consecutive integers with 85 as the middle value or all values are same. Again INSUFF.

IMO E.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
