That's a very good question and only the designers of the software can probably tell you that!
The actually content of the essay doesn't matter so much. It is more the effectiveness of your arguments.
I would hazard to guess that the software probably picks up on grammatical errors.
"The argument are not an intelligent one"
It probably picks up on repetition (poor style).
"I believe it is bad because it harms the economy. I believe it is bad because it is not good for the environment. I believe it is sad."
While it is suppose to be sensitive to those whose first language is not english, and allows a few spelling/grammatical errors, it will probably penalize those who make many mistakes.
Remember that one human grader will also mark the essay, so you can't just beat the system.
