how vital are the no of attempts ?

hi sir,
i took my gmat on 12 oct and scored 450.i want to take gmat again afer a decent preparation.does this bad score of 450 will create a bad impression in the minds of admission council about my candidature even if i score well in the second attempt?pls help.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your GMAT score. While this score isn't ideal, as long as you are able to significantly raise your score in your next attempt (aim to score in the range of the programs you plan to apply) you should be fine. It's not uncommon for candidates to take the GMAT exam more than once, but a significant increase in subsequent scores is needed in order to mitigate adcom concerns.

hi stacy,
thanks for ur reply.in practice tests i got a good score but on the test day i was off i dont know why.i want to take gmat once again but i m confused to take in feb 2012 to apply for round 3 r wait for round 1 of next year admissions.pls help.

Hi,

Applying in round 3 is challenging. Often times programs simply don't have many seats left and thus while the evaluation criteria is the same it is much harder to gain admission simply due to capacity. I would suggest holding off on round 3 and putting solid applications in for round 1.
