Hello,
I have begun to narrow my list of potential business schools I would like to apply to for Fall '13. The schools I am interested in are NYU (first choice), Columbia (second choice).
Now a little about me, I graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a 2.7 GPA. I know this GPA is low and I am severely disappointed in myself. I was hoping to use the Essay 4 on the NYU application to explain my situation from freshman/sophomore year when due to some personal reasons I was on academic probation but worked hard the remaining years to bring my GPA to where it is today. I graduated December 2011 and have been working full time as a design engineer, where I have the lead on projects from the concept stage through the prototype, testing and production. Although my GPA is low I think my Resume, work experience, recommendations and hopefully my GMAT score (which I take 10/27/12) should help my application.
A little about my resume, I am an eagle scout where throughout my boy scouting career I held multiple leadership positions. I have awards for my community service through my church and town. I have 3 intern experiences across different engineering fields, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering and design engineering where the final design engineering position was transitioned into full time employment upon my graduation. My strong work ethic and attention to detail will be discussed in my recommendations. I have worked through the majority of my undergraduate and would like to speak to that as well.
My question is, if I am capable of scoring in the 700+ for the GMAT do I have a chance to get into those schools?
Upon completing my MBA I would like to work in investment banking. I think with my engineering background I can use my data analyzing skills, which I have groomed over the course of my studies and work experiences, to make an impact in this field. I would like to pursue an MBA with a finance concentration.
I thank you for your time.
