When a certain number is divided by 223, the remainder is 79.When the same number is divided by 179, the quotient is 315, the remainder will be

x = 223q + 79
x = 179*315 + R
223q + 79 = 56385 + R
223q = 56306 + R
q = 56306/223 + R/223
q = 252 + 110/223 + R/223
R = 223-110 = 113

Choose B

PS : Is this really a GMAT problem? I've never encountered such calculation intensive problems in GMAT.

Hi ganeshrkamath,

While the concept of "remainders" is tested on the GMAT (usually 1-2 times), these numbers are way too big to be reasonable for a GMAT question.
