(1) If 1/2 of the gasoline in tank X were pumped out, the tank would be fillef to 1/3 of its capacity.

Let G = the gas in the tank and C = the capacity of the tank.

Statement 1:
G - (1/2)G = (1/3)C
No way to solve for G.
INSUFFICENT.

Statement 2:
G + 0.75 = C
No way to solve for G.
INSUFFICIENT.

Statements combined:
Since we have two variables (G and C) and two distinct linear equations with these variables (see above), we can solve for the two variables.
Thus, the value of G can be determined.
SUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is C.
