Hi Paes!

There is subject-verb disagreement in answers A and B.
Beatrix Potter...coordinating...
It should be
Beatrix Potter...coordinated...

Answers C and D include errors.
I choose E.

Hope it helps!
Best,
Maciek

(A) Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, - Usage of them is ambigious, Them does not refer to anything.
(B) In her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, Beatrix Potter - Same problem as A
(C) In her book illustrations, which she carefully coordinated with her narratives, Beatrix Potter -As so its the book she coordinated with her narratives. Correct.
(D) Carefully coordinated with her narratives, Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations - This suggests that Potter herself was coordinated
(E) Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations, carefully coordinated them with her narratives and - You cannot hive off essential modifiers with commas

Answer C

(B) In her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, Beatrix Potter
Think about the option A:

Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, capitalized on her keen observation and love of the natural world.

A is wrong for the following reasons:

1. Them has no reference.
2. If you eliminate the non-essential modifier, you see "BP carefully coordinating them capitalized"
3. The subject BP is very remote from the main verb "capitalized"

B is wrong for the following reasons:

In her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, Beatrix Potter..

1. Them does not have reference because "illustrations" is not plural. It is the name of a book.
2. "carefully coordinating" illogically modifies "illustrations"---meaning that the book is coordinating.

Hope that helps.

thanks.

Illustrations is not a title. So them has a clear referent. But a is still wrong. You can google for a full list of book titles written by Beatrix Poter.

I thought this one was fairly easy. C is the only answer that makes sense. which she carefully..modifies the book illustrations. In her book, , Beatrix Potter is obviously a correct way of wording this; I'm sure you are all familiar with this pattern.

OA is C.

Thanks everybody for your responses.

I understand that 'them' is ambiguous in all the other 4 choices.
But I am unable to understand 2 back yo back modifiers.

Suppose in B :

In her book illustrations(A) , carefully coordinating them with her narratives(X), Beatrix Potter (B)

How to tell that :
X is modifying to A or B ?
A is modifying to X or B ?
Is there any general rule here ?

Similarly in A :
Beatrix Potter(B), in her book illustrations(A), carefully coordinating them with her narratives(X),

which part is modifying to what, please explain.
