Since the order in which we select the 3 people does not matter, we can use COMBINATIONS

We can select 3 people from 5 people in 5C3 ways

5C3 = (5)(4)(3)/(3)(2)(1) = 10

Answer: E

Hi Roland2rule,

We're asked for the number of different groups of 3 people that can be formed from a group of 5 people. Using the Combination Formula is arguably the fastest way to answer this question (as Brent has shown). You'll notice that the answer choices are relatively small though, so you could just 'map out' all of the possibilities.

If we name the 5 people: A, B, C, D and E, then the groups would be...
ABC
ABD
ABE
ACD
ACE
ADE
BCD
BCE
BCE
CDE

Total Groups = 10

Final Answer: E

OA is E
Are there different methods to solve this? An Expert pls.

The number of groups of 3 that can be formed from 5 people is 5C3 = (5 x 4 x 3)/3! = 10.

Answer: E
