Help with RC approach

Hi All,

I have been working on RCs from OG11 for the last few days and have been using the strategy of writing down key points for each para and looking up additional info while answering the questions.
What I have observed is, I sometimes do really well and get all questions in a passage right and some other times fail miserably with 40-50% accuracy.

Has any one ever had a similar experience with RCs? And if you did, could you please share any ideas to overcome this?

Check this out. I just finished going through the 'Caffeine' and 'Genetic Mutations' passage and really liked the explanations and the attack strategy. Hope that helps.

One more tip. Try to be consistent with whatever strategy you pick and then start practicing. There are several approaches to attacking an RC passage. And whenever it isn't working, you can evaluate what you did wrong and then you can make corrections accordingly.

Hi Sudhaprem,

What kind of notes are you taking? Are you merely rephrasing details and writing down short summaries? Consider paying more close attention to HOW the author makes his argument, as opposed to what that argument actually is. I like to think of it as reading for structure and rhetoric as opposed to getting lost in the content.

Thanks Vivian! Went through both the links and found them helpful especially at a time when I am feeling low as I am struggling with RCs.
