bio major confused about MBA application

by bowolana » Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:12 pm
hi stacy,
im applying to business school but really confused whether or not my application will even be looked at. I have an undergrad in Biology, minor in chem with a overall gpa of 3.4..does that major put me in any disadvantage since its not business related?

also i have been working full time for a yr and half at a pharma company, and i also founded a tech start-up with my buddy and been working on that since college. my extra curriculars are pretty good, volunteer work etc and i plan on taking the gmat in october.

if i get a 700 on the gmat, will i be able to gain admission into a top 30 school? whats your opinion. Thanks for your time, and have a great day.

Dear bowolana,

There are no required or preferred college degrees. Your degree in the sciences is actually less common, so you should leverage that to your advantage. If you score in the 700s on your GMAT, then I think you have a shot at a top 30 but your essays, interview, resume and recommendations are what will get you admitted.

Good luck,
Lisa
