Psychologist: Although studies of young children have revealed important facts about the influence of the environment on language acquisition, it is clear that one cannot attribute such acquisition solely to environmental influences: innate mechanisms also play a role.

So, the most reasonable question that ought to be studied is whether _______.
Which one of the following most logically completes the passage?

A. language acquisition can ever be fully explained.

B. innate mechanisms are a contributing factor in language learning.

C. language acquisition is solely the product of innate mechanisms.

D. parents and peers are the most important influence on a child's learning of a language.

E. innate mechanisms play a more important role in language acquisition than a child's immediate environment.

The correct answer given is E. According to me the author is not trying to compare between the two parameters. He is only trying to say that Language Acquisition is not dependent on one thing alone, but it is dependent on both the things.

According to me the answer should be B. and not E. Could any of the experts please help me in this question.

Well the only thing to be seen here is that option B is the repetition of the premise and not more than that...

But how do you come to know, what question type is it really... According to me this is more an inference question rather than a main point question and hence the option B must be the answer choice...

Kindly help in this answer choice...

according to me
B- innate mechanisms are contributing factors (given)
E- it plays important role (given)

converting B and E into question form
B- do innate mechanisms contribute in language learning??
E- does innate mechanisms play important role??

answers

B- answer can be 1- yes it contributes
2- no it dose not contributes ( means no contribution at all)

E- answer can be 1- yes it plays important role
2- no it does not play important role ( but still it plays some role)

now if we choose B , we hv 2 possibilities, 1 is ok , if 2 then it does not contributes, which again means no role at all,,
which does not check whether innate mechanisms have a role or not

whereas both options of E checks for innate mechanisms

hope it helps!!..
